-Graduate from an accredited school of nursing 

-Diploma in Nursing or Bachelor’s degree in nursing (Master’s degree in nursing preferred)

-Masters in Nursing or more than 3 years’ experience in Healthcare Administration required.

-Nursing Director is certified as registered nurses (RNs)

Training:

-Recommend that the Nursing Director maintain certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)

Experience:

-Minimum of 1-3 years increasing experience in management and nursing service  administration.

-Must possess and demonstrate a high degree of leadership, organizational ability, and  communication skills.

-Knowledge of long-term care management, policies, budgeting, personnel management, and  census development is required. 

 License:

-Valid Registered Nurse (RN) License in the current State. Specialty certification in a clinical  specialty or related field preferred.

 The director of nursing must exhibit strong leadership qualities and set a good example at all  times. It is his/her responsibility to ensure nursing staff members are aware of their duties  and proficiently skilled to perform them.

 The nursing director should have key competencies and extensive experience in a nursing  role. 

 She/he must remain calm in an often high-pressure environment and know how to respond  swiftly and efficiently in emergency situations.

 Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
